Now Showing - IE7Pro and Greasekit

What is Now Showing? Now Showing is my attempt to shine a beacon into the vast dark wilderness of the web, hopefully guiding you to cool stuff you might not ordinarily find and that I think you might find useful (or just plain cool).

Today’s topics are the addons IE7Pro for Internet Explorer, and Greasekit for Safari, that add the ability to apply user scripts just like the Firefox extension Greasemonkey discussed in a previously.

Think of these as sauce for the Gander…

IE7Pro
IE7Pro

As mentioned above, IE7Pro allows users to apply userscripts to the IE7 browser’s display of web pages. Many of the user scripts at userscripts.org will work right away with IE7Pro, but some do take a little modification due to IE7’s differing interpretation of the DOM. When I first found out about this, I was a bit speechless. I mean IE letting users take control? Wow, just wow…

But wait, user scripts aren’t all IE7Pro does, it also claims to enhance Internet Explorer’s tabbed browsing capabilities, institute link “Super Drag and Drop”, mouse gestures, crash recovery, save page to image, quick proxy switcher, AD blocker, inline search, and spell check. I mean HOLY CRAP! With IE7Pro my IE7 performs like Firefox and Opera rolled into one…

Wait, can you hear that? Softly, ever so softly, I hear the Imperial March drifting on the wind… am I starting to realize the POWER of the Dark Side… YOU’RE NOT MY FATHER! (sorry obligatory Star Wars reference there, all Blogs must have at least one so we are now good)

Greasekit

I bet there are some MAC users out there who wished Safari had Greasemonkey abilities. Well wish no more, Greasekit is your answer: user script power for all applications that are built on the Webkit platform (not just Safari, try Mailplane for GMail on your MAC desktop!).

I admit I have a MAC and have tried Greasekit and found it pretty sharp in all its JavaScripty goodness, although I must admit if I am browsing on my MAC it is usually with Shiira, because I like pretty things…

See IE and Sarafi can be as cool as Firefox is you give them a chance. Who knew?! You now can unleash you vision on the web in whatever browser you want, well maybe not all browsers (yes we are looking at you Opera…)

Enjoy!
