Get in the Express Lane!

Express Lane is Innovative’s self-check solution that’s so much more than just self-checkout! This podcast interview with me provides an overview of the features and capabilities that Express Lane provides. More broadly we’re talking about “Patron Self-Service within Library Walls.”

Come see Express Lane work, this week, at PLA 2008 (booth #1201).

    Hi, Eric,

    Two questions:

    (1) How does ExpressLane handle desensitizing security strips.

    (2) Must we use the III payment product or could we interface with a solution of our own?

    Best wishes,

    Hi Frank

Express Lane does not work with security strips on its own. However, we do have a separate product called Item Status API, that works with MilCirc and Express Lane to set security chips to the appropriate state upon checkin / checkout. This removes the necessity of having a separate workstation for triggering the chip after a circ transaction.

Presently the Item Status API has been developed to work with RFID security systems. Theorhetically, we think it could also work with security strips but we would need to have a vendor work with us to verify this. Until this happens, we can say only that we think the combination of Express Lane & Item Status API could work with security strips.

Regarding your payment question, we only support the Ecommerce for Express Lane product that we sell. We have not heard of any library using a separate solution. If you are able to make one work, go for it - however your work would be outside our support parameters.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
