Today I am writing about the Item Status API product which makes Millennium Circulation and Express Lane (integrated, self-service circulation) compatible with RFID transactions. It allows staff and patrons to checkin / checkout multiple items at once using an RFID pad while also automatically switching the security bit to the correct state–all in one smooth transaction.
The user places the item(s) on the RFID pad and the magic happens…the circ transaction is completed and the RFID security bit is re-set. The staff member is free to move on to the next item and the patron is free to pickup their items from the self-check station and walk directly out of the library. No more desensitization stations next to the self-checkout station!
I am pleased to announce that 3M and EnvisionWare join Bibliotheca as the RFID vendors whose systems are fully compatible with the Item Status API. We are actively testing with Libramation and are speaking with Checkpoint and TechLogic.
