This is Rice Majors, product manager for Encore Harvesting Services. Libraries are using OAI-compliant harvesting to present their local collections in Encore right along with catalog search results, putting these important resources “in the flow” of their users. In this podcast, Spenser Thompson and I talk about Encore Harvesting Services and how one library—the University of Nebraska-Lincoln—is highlighting their location collections.

As a supplement to the podcast, try this sample search of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Encore implementation. It’s a search for Willa Cather that brings harvested collections into the catalog results. Take a look at the Collection facets on the left side of the screen, which break out harvested local content from ContentDM Collections (Image and Multimedia Database), DigitalCommons@University of Nebraska-Lincoln (institutional repository), University Archives Finding Aids, and the Willa Cather Archive.
